A Lesson In Songwriting From The Rolling Stones

Here is a fascinating clip of The Rolling Stones writing and recording “Sympathy for the Devil.” The song versions morph from a laid-back tune to a percussive, driving anthem. Plus you get to actually see the most catchy “hooting owl” backup singers in recorded history. The film also helps bring attention to the lyrics. I never think of Mick Jagger as a particularly deep lyricist, but it seems like for this tune he was really trying to channel his inner Bob Dylan.
