Why Teenagers Aren’t Getting Enough Sleep — City Visions Tonight At 7pm, KALW 91.7 FM

Research from local clinics and medical studies show that 87% of teenagers get less than the recommended amount of sleep on the average night. What role do the internet and social media play in causing this wide-scale sleep deprivation? What are the effects that we see in the daily life of our youth? And how is this problem being addressed by parents, teachers, and schools?

On tonight’s City Vision we explore the causes of teenage sleep deprivation and what we can do about them. Joining me to discuss will be:

  • Dr. Jamie Mark Zeitzer – Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford Center for Sleep Sciences and Medicine;
  • Julia Russell Eells – Head of San Francisco University High School; and
  • Dr. Michael Tompkins – Author of the Insomnia Workbook for Teens, co-director of the San Francisco Bay Area Center for Cognitive Therapy, and assistant clinical professor at the University of California, Berkeley.
Tune in at 7pm or live stream. Call or email with your questions for the discussion!
